Cat Grandpa Naps With Shelter Cats & Steals Our Hearts

A 75 year old Wisconsin man who just wanted to brush some cats has been affectionately dubbed “Cat Grandpa” and is stealing all of our hearts this week.

He’s also helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars to help cats in the process!

It all started when Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary – a no-kill, cage free rescue in Green Bay Wisconsin – posted a heartfelt shout out to the Cat Grandpa, Terry, on Facebook:

“We are so lucky to have a human like Terry. Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats. Eventually it became everyday. He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don’t mind – Cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer. #nappingencouraged #grateful”

It quickly started being shared across the interwebs, going viral, and Terry became everyone’s favorite Cat Grandpa.

Terry, a retired spanish teacher, began visiting Safe Haven in 2016 and is now an official volunteer who visits 6 days a week for several hours each day. He spends time petting, brushing and hanging out with the feline residents of Safe Haven. There is usually also a cat nap or 2.

Best. Job. Ever.

Donations became flooding in and fundraisers to benefit Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary were started in Terry’s honor and in just a matter of days they raised over $20,000!

Not only that, Shopko stopped by with a brand new recliner for Terry and his feline friends to take their cat naps in.

Terry wouldn’t take all the credit for helping provide these kitties a better life, its very important to him that other volunteers got their equal recognition. Such as Ryan the animal care manager.

and Paula, a lady Terry has dubbed “The Cat Grandma”.

Safe Haven is so fortunate to have so many caring individuals looking out for the animals!

It takes a little more sometimes, as the pets Safe Haven rescues are those with physical and psychological special needs.

But it sure looks like Terry and the crew at Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary have got everything under control!
